DRC(District Resource Centre )

A majority of students of Government Colleges belong to the marginalized sections of society and hence, need additional support. Further, the students of rural and remote colleges generally suffer from constraints like -

1. Poor parental educational and economic background,
2. Inadequate intellectual support,
3. Lack of exposure to modern ideas and concepts,
4. Poor communication skills,
5. Low academic interaction around,
6. Lack of access to modern developments like internet etc. to their urban brethren. In addition to this, the Government Colleges in rural areas usually have certain shortcomings that further compound the difficulties of students.

Collective activities and sharing of resources among a group of colleges can bring multiple advantages to students and teachers of all colleges of the group, weaker colleges in particular, if they are interconnected with each other. This will go a long way in helping, especially, the rural students.Government Colleges are spread across in every district of the State and are ideally suitable for academic interconnecting among themselves for their collective benefit.

Hence, it is decided to establish “District Resource Centre” (DRC) in a suitable Government Colleges in the district with the DRC of better utilization of resources and expertise for the benefit of all students.

Establishment:

DRC established on 05-09-2007 with proceedings of the Commissioner of collegiate Education.Rc. No 20/DRC/Acad. Cell/AC-1/7/2007 Date: 24-07-200

Objectives:

1. To act as “academic resource centre” with reference to academic expertise, facilities, academic programmes and new initiative etc. for the benefit of Students and staff of the colleges of the district, of rural and developing colleges in particular.
2. To network the other Government Colleges in the district for above academic purpose.
3. To Share the academic expertise, facilities etc. By the students and staff of the participant colleges
4. To take up such activities that benefits the students and staff of all Government colleges, in the district.

Structure:

All the Government Degree Colleges in the district will be the constituent colleges of the DRC. The functional unit of the DRC will consist of an Executive Committee (EC). The principles of all the member colleges will be the members of the EC. In addition to them two lecturers from the host college will be the members. The principal of DRC-host College will nominate them. The principle of DRC College will act as the chairperson of the EC. The EC can co-opt three more members, if necessary for functional purpose. The total strength of EC shall not exceed fifteen. The EC will nominate the member secretary and treasurer from among its members. The EC shall meet not less than four times in a year and preferably once in each quarter.
