Botany Department was established in the year 1944 with Biological and physical sciences at intermediate Level and chemistry, Botany, and Zoology at graduation level. In late 70’s the group with Botany as main and Chemistry and Zoology as ancillaries was introduced. The faculty strength by then was 13. Owing to on going demand for diversified courses and to prepare students industry ready, the university has restructured the courses at graduation level in the year 1998. The new courses of Biochemistry and Bio technology with Botany combination are introduced in the subsequent years of 2000 and 2002. The department has well equipped state of art laboratories. The college/ department has attained autonomous status in the academic year 2014-2015. The B.Sc(BZC), English medium programme was introduced in the academic year 2015-2016. General electives and value added courses were introduced in the curriculum. Skill based work shops/exhibitions are under way to offer special orientation. The department of Botany, GCW (A) has indigenously developed a medicinal garden availing RUSA funds to promote and nurture endangered medicinal plants.
